I am a retired electrical engineer based in Tokyo, Japan. I’ve surfed the internet for years. Have you noticed that with the advent of high quality camera devices in smart phones, the internet is full of high definition images? Most are larger than the monitor and you have to condense them to display them on the monitor. But it’s condended, not the real image.

This site uses vertical scrolling to deal with this problem. The image are enlarged in the horizontal direction for display. Parts of the image not displayed because of the expansion are shown by automatic vertical scroll. Thus you get an enhanced view much closer to what the photographer really wants to show.
